GLADSTONE - Howard E. St. John, 62, of 22 S. 3rd St., Gladstone,
passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Marquette General Hospital following
complications from an automobile accident.
Howard was born March 15, 1949, in Escanaba to Joseph and Gwendolyn
(Weaver) St. John. He was raised in Powers where he graduated in 1967 from
Powers High School.
Following graduation, Howard attended Northern Michigan University
prior to serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Howard was united in marriage to the former Sandra Young on Aug.
14, 1971, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone.
Howard worked for the Mead Paper Co., for 36 years from 1971 until
his retirement in 2007.
Howard enjoyed the Ham radio club (DCARS), loved building/flying
his remote controlled airplanes with the club both here and in Lake Havasu
City, where he vacationed with Sandy and all their Havasu friends.
He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Gladstone Golf
Club.
He was a wonderful husband, father and a devoted papa to his grandchildren
and Bella. His nieces and nephews loved him; to them he was "Uncle Howard,
the Tickle Machine."
In addition to his wife Sandy, survivors include his daughters,
Jaclyn (Robert) Feller and Allison Desotelle; brother, Aaron (Laurel) St.
John; sister, Sr. Jo Lyn St. John, The School Sisters of Notre Dame; grandchildren,
Zachary and Jacob Ward, Kole Desotelle, Andrew (Lauren), Erik, Danielle
(Robert) Feller; brother and sister-in-law, Donna and Eugene Folcik; brother-in-law,
Cliff Young; mother and father-in-law, George and Melba Young; nieces and
nephews, Alan (June) St. John, Lynette (St. John) and Dan Stein, Lana St.
John, Rick (Heather) Folcik, Jenny (Jeff) Gerken, Cliffton (Lisa) Young,
and Dillon Young.
In addition to his parents, Joe and Gwen, Howard was preceded in
death by an infant son, Christopher and nephew, Arlan St. John.
Howard's family will receive friends on Sunday, June 19, 2011,
from 2-5 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services
celebrating the life of Howard E. St. John will follow at the Skradski
Funeral Home at 5 p.m. with Gerald Glasure officiating. Luncheon will follow
at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone.
Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
